Income Tax raid going on in Ambala, officials to disclose details on Friday
Jaskaran Singh | TNN | Jan 24, 2019, 22:44 ISTAMBALA: The Income Tax Department teams on Wednesday started conducting survey raids in Ambala city areas under section 134-A of the Income Tax (IT) Act on four firms based in the city.
The raid is being conducted under the supervision of the Ambala range joint commissioner Deepika Mohan at Kapil Sarees, Chhabra Sons Jewellers, Naresh Footwear, Naresh Udyog, and Ghunghat Palace. Around four teams of the department sealed the firms and started verifying the documents.
On Wednesday night, the team completed the process of two firms while the others are being inspected. The proper security arrangements are made for the IT team and the police force is guarding the ongoing process.
About the initial investigation, Santosh Yadav, Income Tax officer said, "The process of verifying the facts takes time, as of now we have raided on four firms and the process is ongoing therefore we cannot disclose any details at this moment. We are scrutinising the financial records along with the daily sale data. As per the data, the income tax returns and the tax deposited are being verified. We have sealed two firms and on Friday we would be able to disclose further details."
As per sources, one firm has surrendered the amount of Rs 1.2 crore while the details of the others are being verified by the team. It is being expected that the department would get the taxes of around Rs 85 lakh. Also, the team has not been able to obtain much from the Kapil Sarees. A raid was also conducted at a warehouse in Naraingarh.
Around 50 police personnel have been deployed for the raid.
Sources said the department received the information that some of the business owners in the cloth market of Ambala City had deposited a large amount to the accounts of their employees during the time of demonetization and they have also been evading taxes.
An official with anonymity disclosed that many firms are on the radar of the IT department.
The owners of the firm which surrendered the amount could not be reached despite several attempts.
