All platforms at Chandigarh railway station to have washable aprons

CHANDIGARH: Officials of the Chandigarh railway station have been told to provide facility of washable aprons at all platforms. Directions to this effect have been issue by general manager (Northern Railways) T P Singh, who was in the city to hold a meeting with the officials of Punjab to discuss various issues relate to the railways in the state.
The washable apron is the part of the rail track along the platform, where a train is cleaned. The washable apron is meant to ensure cleanliness at the station. All major stations have washable aprons along platforms.
While monitoring the work on platform No 1 that was made operational on Tuesday, Singh discussed with the officials about the technique regarding construction material used for the washable apron.
Officials informed him that the construction was done to avoid any seepage to the platform. He also suggested construction of sewerage near the platform on the lines of the other stations for better water outlet.
Inquiring about the washable apron at platform No 1, the railways general manager asked the officials about the reasons behind their not planning to have washing apron on all platforms.
Platform No 1at the Chandigarh railway station has been made operational after it was shut down for 36 days. The closure came in the wake of constructing washable apron on the tracks. The platform was closed from December 15 to January 19.
Singh along with other branch officers on Wednesday held a meeting with Punjab chief secretary Karan A Singh, principal secretary (food) K A P Sinha and PWD secretary Hussan Lal and discussed various issues related to new tracks in the Punjab region.
In the meeting various issues that are in the pipeline or proposed of road over bridges and road under bridges in Punjab region were also discussed. In the meeting the officials of the railway taking serious note of the two issues one is disposal of garbage on tracks and encroachments on railway land is discussed.
Railway officials asked the Punjab officials to take stringent action those residing near the railway track and disposing of their garbage on the tracks and also directed the officials to remove encroachment on the railway land across the state.
