India’s domestic giant Wasim Jaffer became the first batsman in history to score 1000 runs in a season twice in Ranji Trophy. He also became the first Asian batsman to score two double centuries after turning 40 in first-class cricket.
He surpassed the 1000 run mark while playing for defending champions Vidharbha in the ongoing tournament against Kerala. The 40-year-old Jaffer had scored 1260 runs from 16 innings for Mumbai in 2008-09.
Jaffer has a total of 19,079 runs in 409 innings. He has scored 57 hundred and 88 half-centuries in his domestic career. It is also known that Jaffar doesn’t take fees from the Vidharbha team.

Umesh Yadav had given Vidharbha a good start by taking seven-wicket and restricting them to 106 in their first innings; Jaffer came in to bat and scored 34.
Jaffer had played 31 Tests for India between 2000 and 2008. He had made his debut against South Africa in 2000 and was considered as a crucial member of the Indian team. He scored five centuries and 11 fifties in his career.
