They did not carry bill for gold, account for cash: SP

Nellore police seized Indian and foreign currency as also a piece of gold biscuit from two-Chennai bound persons close to Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border in SRSP Nellore district on Wednesday.

The seized currencies were in the denomination of ₹2,000 and ₹500 for ₹6.33 crore, $16,850, 1,700 Kuwait Dinar and 1,670 Oman riyals, Superintendent of Police Aishwarya Rastogi told the media.

Further action

On a tip-off, a patrolling team laid in wait at Tada and intercepted the car to find currency notes and a gold biscuit piece concealed in a secret chamber in the car by one Suresh (27) and Haribabu(37) from Narasapur in West Godavari district. They did not carry bill for the gold and account for the huge cash with them. They claimed that they were carrying them on behalf of one person into jewellery business in West Godavari district. The seized cash and valuables were handed over to the Income Tax Department for further action in this regard.
