CHANDIGARH: While city hoteliers are demanding that bar timings be extended from 1am to 2am, the law and order committee of the UT administration has recommended that bars and pubs in the city should close at 12 midnight.
On Wednesday, the recommendations of the committee were placed before Punjab governor-cum-UT administrator V P Singh Badnore during the review meeting of six committees of administrator’s advisory council. In the meeting, the administrator reviewed the action taken report on the recommendations of six committees of administrator’s advisory council — law and order, traffic, sports, education, urban infrastructure and social welfare committee.
UT adviser Manoj Parida told TOI the law and order committee has recommended changes in the closing timing of bars and pubs in the city. On committee’s recommendations, the administrator has asked the officials to study the timings and model in other states, including Delhi, and UTs and submit a report accordingly. The final meeting of administrator’s advisory council will be held on February 14. Till date, no final decision has been taken on the closing timings of bars and pubs in city, he clarified. In the meeting, it was also discussed that alcometer/ breath analysers should be placed in all the bars and clubs.
The administrator also emphasised on the need to bridge the gap between the performance of mainstream city schools and periphery schools.
