The Delhi Police Cyber Cell has arrested a man from Madhya Pradesh for making allegedly making derogatory comments and hurting religious sentiments on social media, the police said on Wednesday.
Accused Abhishek Mishra claims to be an RTI activist and a journalist on social media. He has a blog as well.
The police said he had made derogatory comments against political leaders, mocked the Prime Minister and made distasteful statements against senior ministers. He claimed he was expressing his personal views in his social media posts.
Though not associated with Congress, his social media posts seem to support the party. Mishra claimed he was a member of the Congress but quit the party two years back. He has been charged under sections dealing with obsecenity, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious sentiments under IPC and the IT Act. He was arrested from his Bhopal residence after the Delhi Police Cyber Cell tracked him down through the IP addresses of his social media accounts.
“We are trying to determine the source of the material he had posted on social media or whether he was part of an association that regularly posted derogatory comments about political leaders on social media. We have recovered 10 laptops from him,” said a police officer.
