PATNA: Governor-cum-chancellor Lalji Tandon on Wednesday directed the vice-chancellors of different universities in the state to conditionally allow the teachers of affiliated degree colleges to evaluate the answer sheets of various examinations conducted by the universities.
The chancellor has, however, directed them to ensure that the quality of evaluation is not affected at all. Even if the affiliated college teachers are asked to evaluate the answer sheets, teachers of only constituent colleges be made head examiners. Furthermore, five percent of the answer books evaluated by affiliated college teachers should be randomly re-evaluated by senior teachers of constituent colleges. If any irregularity is found during re-evaluation, stern action should be taken against the examiner as well as the college where he or she is employed.
Raj Bhavan sources said the decision was taken after considering the various representations made by the teachers’ organizations and people’s representatives in favour of affiliated college teachers. The chancellor reportedly took into consideration the larger interest of students and teachers and also for regularizing the examination calendar, sources added.
It may be mentioned here that teachers of affiliated colleges in the state were up in arms against the chancellor’s recent directive, debarring them from the evaluation of degree examination answer sheets. The decision to debar affiliated college teachers from evaluation work was taken at a meeting of the vice-chancellors at Raj Bhavan on December 14.
Quite recently, the teachers of affiliated colleges in B R A Bihar University had disrupted the evaluation work at Muzaffarpur in protest against the chancellor’s directive. They had not even allowed any examiner to enter the evaluation centres.
