Mumbai recorded an unusually low maximum temperature on 27.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which was 3.4 degrees below normal. This is the third lowest maximum temperature for January in a decade. Mumbaikars also experienced a cloudy morning for a brief time.

Maximum temperature had reached the highest so far this year on Saturday, at 35.5 degrees Celsius in the suburbs, but temperature has been falling since then. The Santacruz observatory recorded minimum temperature on Wednesday at 19.2 degrees.

K.S. Hosalikar, deputy director general (western region), IMD, said low daytime temperature would lead to cold winds in the evenings. IMD has attributed the dip in temperature to cool northerly winds.
