Papacream, an ice cream venture started by Tanvi Chowdhri in Mumbai, has come to Bengaluru. Currently it has two outlets in the city — Harlur Road and JP Nagar. We head towards the JP Nagar joint to chill on these frozen treats. The JP Nagar franchisee is run by Kokila Krish, a software engineer by profession. Kokila says she always dreamt of starting something in the food industry with her cousin, who is a foodie. “That is when we decided to contact Tanvi and start Papacream here,” says Kokila who juggles between her career as a software engineer and running the ice cream joint.
Apart from the usual suspects, Papacream experiments with flavours like an ice cream made from Horlicks! This one is as chewy as Horlicks powder itself. It is chilled, gooey and sticks to your teeth. The frozen treat brings back childhood memories. The next we dig into is the Nutella pancakes ice cream and virgin mojito sorbet. The latter is light in its flavour and sugar level. It also gives your palate a fresh feel with a slight hint of mint.
We give the tipsy whisky a shot. The frozen treat is served in a cone or cup. There is also the salted caramel popcorn ice-cream, which seems to be a hit with caramel and popcorn lovers. These ice creams, says Kokila, are “hand-crafted and made using ingredients in their purest form with no artificial flavours, colour or essence.”
The menu also boasts of desserts like the bubble waffle, cookie and doughnut ice cream sandwiches besides milkshakes and summer coolers. One must mention the bubble gum ice cream, which tastes like eating a chilled bubble gum, just that this one melts in your mouth. The taste gets a bit weird for us, but according to Kokila, this flavour is a big hit with children.
The ice-creams sure satisfy your soul and the décor too makes it a homey place to chill out with your friends and family. The interiors are designed by Papacream and Tanvi, shares Kokila, who has added her own innovation to the walls — a pretty collage of sticky notes with feedback from customers. Some have stylish writing, some smileys with happy feedback by children and some just doodles by people who have spend time at the parlour.
There are also pink bicycle bar stools that look like the ancient unicycles, making it a cheerful ambience for children and adults.
The ice creams start at ₹75 plus taxes.
