NEW DELHI: The city witnessed two robberies in buses on Wednesday. In both the incidents, the passengers caught the criminals and handed them over to police.

In the first incident, a Border Security Force constable was held at knifepoint by two youths near CGO Complex in south Delhi while travelling in an airconditioned Delhi Transport Corporation bus on route 522 (Ambedkar Nagar Terminal to Inderpuri).

The complainant, Chandarpal (36), told police that he boarded the bus at 2pm from Pragati Maidan to go to Munirka. “When the bus reached Lodhi Colony, two youths standing next to me pointed a knife and asked me to hand over my mobile phone. One of the robbers then snatched the phone from my pocket and they got off the bus,” he added.

However, Chandarpal and another passenger also got off, chased the youths for around 50 metres and caught hold of them. They then called the PCR and handed the robbers, later identified as Rohit and Rahul, to the police.

In the second incident, a second-year BA student was robbed while travelling in an RTV from east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar to Laxmi Nagar. The youth, Vicky Prasad Gupta (22), told police that around 3pm, when the bus reached Chand Cinema in Kalyanpuri, two men got on the bus and held him and another passenger at knifepoint. They told the driver to keep going and asked them to hand over their valuables.

When Gupta protested, one of the robbers put the knife on his chest and told him to stay quiet. The men then snatched his and the other passenger’s mobile phone, told the driver to stop the bus and got off.

However, Gupta also alighted from the bus, chased the robbers and caught one of them. Police soon reached the area and arrested the criminal, later identified as Abhishek.

A stolen mobile phone was recovered from him.
