Citizen alert: watch out for a Nano car with GHMC logo and slogans on city roads. Though appearing as innocuous as any other car, this vehicle can make your wallet lighter if it catches you littering the road.

GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore has released the first such car, equipped with three cameras and a computer, onto the city roads here on Wednesday. Painted with GHMC logo, and the slogan of ‘Saaf Hyderabad-Shandar Hyderabad’, the car is designed for NMOS or Nano Monitoring of Sanitation in the city.

The vehicle launched on Wednesday is being deployed in Khairatabad Zone. In the coming week, similar cars will be provided for all the six zones, said Mr.Dana Kishore, interacting with the media after the launch.

Cameras fixed to the car will take visuals of the roads and those littering or releasing sewage water onto the roads/streets, and send them to the command control room of GHMC. Officials monitoring the visuals will decide the amount of fine to be imposed.

Mr. Dana Kishore said 150 tablets have been provided to officials to monitor sanitation works in the city. He refuted the allegation that sanitation is being privatised and assured that there will be no job loss for contract or outsourced sanitation staff.
