Indore: Stoking controversy, BJP city vice president Jaideep Jain at a review meeting on Wednesday, said people belonging to Yadav community did not vote for BJP candidate Sudarshan Gupta who contested election from Indore-1 assembly constituency as he did not allow some people of the community to run satta.
He passed this alleged remark before Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan who was chairing the meeting to establish possible reasons behind party’s defeat in Indore-1 constituency. When she asked how come a two-time sitting MLA who won 2013 assembly election by a margin of over 54,000 votes lost election this time, party leaders narrated different reasons.
While some stated that Brahmin community got furious over Gupta’s remark on BJP leader Vishnu Prasad Shukla so they did not vote for him, others stated that business community ditched the party this time. Jain stood up and stated that apart from these reasons there was one more reason behind Gupta’s defeat. He stated Yadav community members did not vote for BJP candidate as he put check on certain Yadav community members who run satta business.
Congress reacted sharply by saying that Jain’s remark was an insult to Yadav community and there is an attempt to brand Yadavs as satta operators. Congress state secretary Rakesh Singh Yadav said Mahajan should apologise for the remark as it was made in her presence. He also stated that BJP has been trying to insult Yadavs. “Earlier, a BJP MP had called Yadavs as cattle rearers,” he stated.
