The Gujarat state transport has extended its bus services to destinations in six other states of the country, to places such as Hardiwar, Varanasi, Goa, Nathdwara and Haryana.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday flagged off 30 premium buses from Ahmedabad to these destinations. He also announced a 6 per cent discount on online bookings for tickets on premium, Volvo or AC buses, and a 4 per cent discount on non-premium, non-AC sleeper and Gurjar Nagri Express buses.

Rupani also handed over appointment letters to nearly 2,000 bus conductors recruited by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).

"We are extending our bus service to cater the demands of our citizens. Poorer people can't afford to travel by private buses, so we want to provide them with cheaper alternatives to visit pilgrimage and tourism centres. These buses provide best quality comfort at inexpensive rates," Rupani said.

"We have also started giving discounts on bus fares, if the booking is done online. This is our attempt to promote the 'Digital India' campaign of Prime Minister Modi. Cashless payments will make the process hassle-free and eliminate change-related issues," Rupani added.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister RC Faldu said GSRTC services were available in 18,000 villages across the state, and not a single village was left out. Senior officials of the Gujarat government, MLAs and other leaders were also present at the occasion.
