MUZAFFARPUR: The East Central Railway (ECR) is gearing up to enhance security at Muzaffarpur railway station.
The move comes following a decision of the railway ministry for beefing up security at more than 200 railway stations across the country. Sonepur ADRM Pankaj Kumar visited the railway station on Thursday to identify places where security gazettes will be installed. He inspected all the entry points and gates located along the north and south ends of the railway station.
Talking to newsmen after inspection, the ADRM said, “All entry gates would be closed except two--Shahid Khudi Ram Bose Dwar and Mahavir Dwar--at the northern end. We have decided to close four entrance gates out of six for passengers. We will install various security gazettes in and around the railway station, including the entry and exit points,” he said.
Kumar added that vehicle scanners, luggage scanners and metal detectors would be installed next month. “The agency will start work in February. New arrangements will include real-time face recognition and random checking of passengers,” he said.
The ADRM added that 22 fixed and eight Pan–Tilt–Zoom (PTZ) cameras, apart from nine door- frame metal detectors, three vehicle scanners, three small and one big baggage scanners are to be installed, which would be monitored 24x7 by trained RPF staff.
“Security arrangements have been made to segregate entry and exit points. Entry of people from multiple points would be checked through erecting boundaries and fencing,” the ADRM said.
“The ministry is planning to use more technology. There will be limited entry and exit points for better monitoring. We will advise people to reach the station early as now onwards scanning of luggages will be done. There will, however, be no cut-off time to enter the platform,” said the officer.
