Chiefs injury crisis gets worse as defender ruled out

2019-01-24 13:47

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed that Mario Booysen is not available to face Tornado in Sunday's Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash.

The central defender joins Itumeleng Khune, Lebogang Manyama, Lorenzo Gordinho, Eric Mathoho, Joseph Molangoane and Wiseman Meyiwa on the sidelines.

Central midfielder George Maluleka is another player who is doubtful for the Glamour Boys.

Middendorp told reporters: "One player who is definitely not available for us is Mario Booysen for example. He's getting some specific treatment in terms of an issue he has, and of course, we're not taking him.

"A little bit of a question mark this morning at training is George Maluleka, it's a little bit in and out and we're not 100% sure.

"He has a calf problem again and we want to verify. He has an appointment this evening (Wednesday), then we'll know more.

"Each and everybody else who is available will be on the field, and we send the right message by saying the so-called best-11 that we have will be on the field and will take this match (seriously)."

Chiefs are set to face the ABC Motsepe League outfit at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium this weekend with a place in the last-16 at stake.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
