PESO officer caught taking Rs 1.5 lakh bribe

The arrested accused will be produced in the designated court at AhmedabadVADODARA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested an officer of Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization (PESO), Vadodara and a middleman for seeking a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh.
The bribe was sought for favourable inspection of three CNG stations in Rajkot and Morbi and from other parties whose inspection-related works were also pending with him. In an official release, CBI said that the officer, who is the controller of explosives in PESO, instructed a middle-man to deliver him the bribe money, after the inspection.
“CBI laid a trap and caught accused duo after exchange of bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh. Searches at the office and residential premises of the public servant were conducted and it led to recovery of cash of about Rs 11.5 lakh, jewellery and incriminating documents. The arrested accused will be produced in the designated court at Ahmedabad,” CBI release said.
He had demanded the illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 for each inspection,” CBI said. The agency registered a case under section 120-B of IPC and sections of Prevention of Corruption Act against the controller, middleman and unknown persons.
It was further alleged that there are many active conduits who do liasoning with the officials of Department of Petroleum & Explosive Safety Organization (PESO), Vadodara Sub Circle Office, Vadodara and get cleared the licensing and inspection work of CNG testing Stations, LPG-CNG godowns, fireworks godowns and other official acts for various licensee parties across Gujarat.
High drama had ensued on the Inorbit Mall Road when the CBI caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe from a businessman. Curious onlookers gathered on the road leading to a traffic jam for a while.
