4 killed in accidents
Jan 24, 2019, 23:44 ISTCoimbatore: Four people, including two youths, were killed in three accidents reported in the last two days.
In the first incident, two motorcycle-borne youths working in a brick kiln unit at Thadagam were mowed down by a truck carrying bricks on the Thadagam – Coimbatore Road on Tuesday. They were identified as K Sathish Kumar, 21, a native of Elupakudi in Sivaganga district and R Madavan, 21 of Pattukkottai in Thanjavur district. “A bank had seized Madavan’s motorcycle after he failed to pay EMI. He was on the way to the bank along with Sathish Kumar to retrieve it when they came under the wheels of the truck near CPC Garden and died on the spot. They were not wearing helmets,” a police officer said. Thadagam police have registered a case against truck driver R Palanisamy of Thadagam.
In the second incident, a 32-year-old sculptor was killed after a private bus rammed his motorcycle on Bharathiyar Road on Thursday. The victim, B Murugesan, a native of Virudhunagar district, was on the way to work along with his brother-in-law Balaguru when the incident happened. “Murugesan came under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot. Balaguru suffered minor injuries and was admitted in the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH),” an officer said. Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW-East) of Coimbatore city police have registered a case against the bus driver.
The third incident claimed the life of 62-year-old P Ponraj of Balaji Nagar at Nallampalayam. “He was working as a welder in a private pump manufacturing unit. He was returning to his home on a bicycle when a crane hit behind the bicycle on Manikayarampalayam Road on Wednesday night. Though he was rushed to CMCH, he died without responding to the treatment,’ an officer said. TIW police registered a case and arrested the crane driver, Prabhu of Mettur in Salem. TNN
