Australian Peers reaches Open doubles final

Australian John Peers and Finn Henri Kontinen are just one win away from claiming a second Australian Open men's doubles title.

The No.12 seeds downed Argentina's Leonardo Mayer and Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) in the opening semi at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

Peers and Kontinen will play Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut or Americans Ryan Harrison and Sam Querrey in the final on Sunday.

Peers won his first grand slam doubles title at the 2017 Australian Open alongside Kontinen.

The 30-year-old is a member of the Australian Davis Cup squad for next week's tie against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Adelaide.
