90.2 pass percentage in Class X equivalency exam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Candidates scored a pass percentage of 90.2 in State Literacy Mission Authority's Class X equivalency examination. When the results were declared on Wednesday, a total of 15,653 candidates passed the examination.
As many as 17,221 candidates from across the state had appeared for the examination conducted from November 8. Sayid Hashir K K, who wrote the examination at SNM HS Tirurangadi, Malappuram scored 'A Plus' in all subjects.
The Class X equivalency courses were introduced in 2007 and the highlight of this year's examination was that 22 of the 25 transgender persons, who appeared for the examination, cleared them.
They were enrolled in the equivalency examination under the Samnaya Scheme of the Literacy Mission. Nine transgender people appeared for the exam from Kollam district and six from Thiruvananthapuram. Two each appeared from Kannur, Wayanad and Malappuram and one each from Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kasaragod and Thrissur. "The Class X course was completed under a 10-month programme, which included classes on weekends. Like in schools, special classes were held on demand of candidates by resource persons and volunteers of the Literacy Mission," said a coordinator of the Literary Mission.
Those who have cleared the Class X equivalency examination can register for the higher secondary equivalency course.
The registration will begin from Sunday.. tnn
