Nagpur: The public works department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation revealed on Thursday that work has not started on nine of the 30 roads in Phase-I of the concretization project. Also, works on only 39 out of 59 roads have been completed in Phase-II. Similarly, 14 works of five packages in Phase-III are underway. The remaining two packages of Phase-III will be started in three-four days, the department revealed in a meeting of Pravin Datke committee convened by the former mayor.

“Work should be started by removing all difficulties in Phase-I, and the remaining works of Phase-II should be completed by August 30,” Datke said.


NMC had entrusted Phase-I of cement road works to Unity Infra Projects Limited (UIPL), to convert 25.93km of tar (30) roads into cement roads on June 6, 2011. The delay has escalated the project cost. At the time of issuing the work order, the project cost was Rs77.50 crore. The cost has increased to Rs122.79 crore.


Committee member and standing committee chairman Virendra Kukreja, water works committee chairman Pintu Zalke, PWD works committee chairman Sanjay Bangale, additional municipal commissioner Ravindra Thakre, and deputy municipal commissioner Nitin Kapardnis were present at the meeting.


Datke also reviewed the progress of redevelopment of NMC’s Dik Hospital, Isolation Hospital, development of Mokshadham crematorium on the lines of Pune City, Orange City Street Project, Budhwar Bazaar of Mahal and Sakkardara, Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial, and development of cement roads junction points.
