Depute officer to ensure implementation of Central schemes for women: HC

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the State to take up with the Centre the implementation of Nirbhaya Fund in the State. Nirbhaya Fund is an initiative aimed at working towards protecting the dignity of women in India.

A Division Bench of Justices K. K. Sasidharan and P. D. Audikesavalu directed the State to depute an officer not below the rank of Principal Secretary to address the issue with the Centre to ensure swift implementation of Nirbhaya and other Central government schemes in the State. The case was adjourned to March 5.

The petitioner in the case, B. Karthee of Madurai, said that apart from the Nibhaya Fund, the State must ensure swift implementation of other Central government schemes like One-Stop Centre scheme for women, Mahila Police Volunteers, Emergency Response Support System, Central Victim Compensation Fund and the Railways Integrated Emergency Response Management System.
