SWANSEA — Selectman Derek Heim and School Committee member Scott Rowland will be seeking their second terms on their respective boards after taking out nomination papers this past week.

Heim had defeated Paul Waple 1,097-771 in 2016 while Rowland ran unopposed and received 1,476 votes.

Heim noted that he would like to continue the progress he and his colleagues Christopher Carreiro and Steven Kitchin have been making.

“I look to continue my work over the course of the next three years focusing on several key community priorities, first and most crucial to our future, further feasibility work to attract, retain, and incentivize commercial business to our community,” he noted.

He also sought to continue the thought and visioning of a three-, five- and 10-year capital improvement plan that addresses the municipal needs, facilities, and resources.

The current chairman also seeks to include use of technology to increase the services to residents including further integration of services within the municipal offices, permitting, and town website.

Heim also would like to identify and complete a comprehensive plan regarding public right of ways to our waterways and enhance recreational facilities and services to the town residents and families

“Our future is bright in Swansea and I am confident with continued leadership as your Selectman that our community will continue on the path to prosperity and resolve,” he said.

Others taking out nomination papers this past week were incumbents Robert Furtado for Constable, Stephen Purdy for Park Commission an Susan McMullen for Library Trustee.

Treasurer/Tax Collector Elizabeth Leonardo had previously taken out papers.

Jo-Ann Johnson announced that she will be seeking re-election to the Board of Library Trustees.

Albert Dias has taken out nomination papers for the unexpired term of Joseph Martin on the Park Commission. Martin stepped down after being promoted to lieutenant on the police department.

Nomination papers can be taken out for the signatures of 50 residents of town until Thursday, Feb. 14.
