Five from city in top 50 of CA final, foundation exams

Nagpur: Five students from the city have made it to top 50 in the All India Ranking (AIR) of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams after results were declared by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Wednesday evening.
Three of them have secured AIR 15 and 17 in CA Final (CPT) making their families and the city proud. The other three are at 33, 42 and 46th AIR in the CA Foundation exam. The toppers have been confirmed by private coaching institute CAPS as ICAI Nagpur Chapter was still in the process of analysing the data on Thursday.
Priyanshi Jain, Dishan Batra (both at AIR 15) and Chirag Batra (17) cleared the final while Vaishnavi Tiwari (33), Aakash Sahu (42) and Karan Bajaj (46) passed in foundation, as per CAPS.
The foundation exam and Common Proficiency Test (CPT) were held in November and December. Over 50,000 had appeared for the first exam followed by just 15,000 in the CPT.
According to ICAI, the CPT recorded 30.10% pass percentage with 9,038 clearing out of 25,037. In the foundation exam, 21,488 had passed out of 48,702 making for 44.12%.
A majority of those appeared had taken the old course in the final. In Group 1, 9,934 passed out of 33,633 registering 30.44%. In Group 2, 8,348 cleared the exam out of 35,655 which recorded 23.41%.
A total of 22,514 appeared in both groups combined. But, 5,428 (24.11%) could manage to pass while 655 (2.91%) cleared Group 2. The number of candidates passing both groups stood at 3,383 (15.03%).
For new course, 884 passed out of 6,181 (14.3%) in Group 1 for final exam while Group 2 saw 894 successful candidates out of 3,307 (27.3%). Total 4,075 had appeared in both groups but 542 (13.3%) passed Group 1 and 293 in Group 2. Total 670 candidates cleared both the groups.
Last year, Kamptee-based Pratiksha Laxman Rochlani has entered the elite club by bagging the 7th All India Ranking (AIR) in the CA final exam.
Before Pratiksha, Atul Agrawal (1st), Gaurav Shrawagi (1st), Pawan Sarda (2) and Prachi Keshwani (3rd) are the others from Nagpur to have figured in the first 10 AIR in the recent history.
Wardhaman Nagar’s Saksham Jain having AIR of 27 was the other topper in the first 50 from the city in 2018.
ICAI PR and CSR member Zulfesh Shah and ICAI Regional Coucil member Abhijeet Kelkar congratulated the toppers for their good show in the coveted exams.
