MUMBAI: The iconic Flora Fountain at Fort area in south Mumbai was inaugurated on Thursday evening by Mumbai mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray.
For those planning a visit, the water flowing down the fountain that has been restarted and the cast iron, brass and mild steel grills around the structure would be worth watching.
Thursday saw only the fountain being opened up, while the beautification around it and also a plaza ad measuring 10,000 sq feet which the civic body attempts to create on the lines of London’s Trafalgar Square may take another two months to be completed. During restoration, conservators stumbled upon the old tram tracks as well which are being retained by bringing them to ground level.
Local Shiv Sena corporator Sujata Sanap said the restoration of the fountain was long pending and was glad that it has been finally completed.
