Kanthabaare-Bhoodabaare jodukere kambala at Aikala tomorrow

Mangaluru: The 43rd Kanthabaare-Bhoodabaare jodukere kambala organised by Aikala Bava Kanthabaare-Bhoodabaare Kambala Samiti, Aikala, will be held at Aikala village near Kinnigoli in Mangaluru taluk on Saturday. Legend has it that local demi-gods Kanthabaare-Bhoodabaare built the slush track used to conduct this folk sport, Aikala Bava Deviprasad Shetty, president of the kambala samiti, told reporters here on Thursday.

Chandrashekar swami, eminent vaastu-astrologer will inaugurate the kambala. Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLC Ivan D’Souza will lay the foundation stone for a permanent spectator gallery on the occasion. Kishore Alva, joint president, Adani group, will inaugurate the slush track in the presence of industrialist Krishna Shetty from Mumbai and others. More than 180 pairs of buffaloes will take part in the event that will conclude on Sunday.


Former PM H D Deve Gowda will be the chief guest at the stage function that will be held on Saturday evening. Pratapchandra Shetty, chairman of the state legislative council, ministers U T Khader, Sa Ra Mahesh, Krishna Byregowda, Zameer Ahmed Khan, Jayamala, leader of the opposition in the council Kota Srinivas Poojary, Ivan D’Souza, MLA Umanath Kotyan, former ministers and elected representatives from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will be present.
