Germán Porrás, the general secretary of this organization, stated that Calvia (Magalluf) had been selected as the location due to the fact that Magalluf has been the first resort to have achieved this restoration and transformation in the world. “It is the clearest example of what can be done through private and public-sector collaboration.” He further added that this was in totally in opposite to Playa de Palma, where transformation has yet to turn up along the lines imagined many years ago.
The conference will be attended by approximately seventy people, who will see how a mature resort can be renovated and transformed. Also, they will go to Platja d’en Bossa in Ibiza, where private investment led by the Palladium Group – has brought about change.
The UN World Tourism Organization (WTO) has been quite powerful in bringing the conference to Magalluf. Its executive director, Manuel Butler, stated that the Balearics are on the WTO’s agenda and that the choice of Magalluf is “recognition of what has been done there”.
