NEW DELHI: Delhi's Sonu Punjaban alias Geeta Arora has been ruling the dark underbelly of flesh trade in Delhi for years. After every arrest, she is back in business in a more organised way.
The alleged kingpin of one of the biggest sex rackets in NCR, Punjaban's clients included high-profile businessmen, while her employees comprised of "aspiring models and actresses". Her henchmen escorted the girls to Kolkata, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Punjab.
Investigators say she has a fascination for "bad boys" and every man who has come in her life has died.
She had married gangster Hemanu Sonu, and took Sonu from his name after he was killed in an encounter.
Sonu changed tracks in life after she fell in love with gangster Vijay Singh, a close aide of gangster Shri Prakash Shukla. Singh was gunned down by UP’s STF in Garh Mukteshwar in 2003 soon after they got married. Her next boyfriend, Deepak, was shot down as well in Assam.
Deepak’s brother, Hemant Sonu, gave her a helping hand and stood by her. Soon, they got married. Hemant got involved in a high profile double murder case that got cops on his trail. In March 2006, Hemant was killed by Special Cell on the Delhi-Gurugram border.
Sonu Punjaban was arrested under immoral trafficking prevention act in Preet Vihar in 2007. In 2008, she was again nabbed for the same offence while out on bail. Three years later in 2011, she was caught again for indulging in flesh trade, booked under MCOCA. The serial offender was in 2017 arrested under POCSO Act for forcing 16-year-old into flesh trade.
Punjaban was recently in jail in connection with a case of trafficking and forcing a girl into prostitution. Currently, she is out on parole.
