JAIPUR: The BJP faced another setback on Wednesday after a no-confidence motion against the Zila Parishad Pramukh, Mool Chand Meena, brought by its councillors, failed the test.

The no-confidence motion was brought after zila pramukh Meena, who was in BJP, switched to Congress in October last year, and since then, the board which comprises mainly of BJP, was upset. The BJP councillors failed in getting the no-confidence motion passed as they could not secure 39 members’ votes. At present, the total strength of Zila Parishad is 51 members and out of these, BJP has 26 members. The Congress has 22 members, while there are two independent members.

The proposal to remove Meena from his post received only 27 votes. On January 15, a notice of no-confidence motion against the Zila Parishad was given to the district collector, Jagroop Singh Yadav.

The BJP councillors decided to bring the motion after the meeting of Zila Parishad, which was to take place on January 11, was postponed. This was second time in a few days’ time, when the meeting was postponed. Earlier, the meeting was called on January 7 but it was postponed.
