But a group of savvy Australian mothers have found a thrifty way to cut down the cost of their weekly shop by visiting their local outlet stores.

And families are saving thousands of dollars on their groceries every year by bulk buying items for a fraction of supermarket prices.

Taking to a popular consumer Facebook group, a Queensland mother-of-four revealed she managed to buy snacks for her children, which will last them an entire school term.

Showing off her massive food haul, the woman said she purchased $149.50 worth of snacks, which included milk poppers, Areoplane jelly, noodles and tinned spaghetti.

The mother said she did her big shop at the Golden Circle Outlet in Queensland.

'School snacks sorted for term one. Today was the closest I've gotten to $150. I always spend less than that. All this plus more that's already down four tiny tummies came to $149.50. Please save your nutritious stories for somebody else,' she said. 

'Prices change almost everyday unless it's on the fortnightly catalogue.'

Her shop included 12 kilos of chicken breasts, eight kilos of chicken thighs and eight kilos of turkey steaks at the Ingham's factory outlet in Brisbane.

'There is a new Ingham's factory outlet that opened a few weeks ago near me, so I decided to have a look. Well I was so shocked,' she said.

'12kgs diced chicken breast, 8kgs of chicken thighs and 8kgs of turkey steaks - all for $94. If you plan to go crazy, you will have to take someone with you as you buy it by the carton and only allowed five cartons per person.'

Another shopper also visited her local Golden Circle factory outlet - where she scored 30 boxes of fruit juices for just $90, which totals to just $3 per 24-pack.

'30 slabs of pineapple juice (shared between 3 families) $90 the lot Golden Circle factory outlet has them at $3 a slap,' she revealed.
