Truck hits and kills male pedestrian on M1 at Gold Coast

A truck has hit and killed a man on the M1 at the Gold Coast, with all northbound lanes closed south of the crash scene.

Emergency services were called just after 7am following reports a pedestrian had been hit.

The incident happened on the M1 in Reedy Creek, near Kings Christian College. Northbound lanes on the motorway were closed from Reedy Creek south.

Paramedics assessed the pedestrian at the scene but he could not be saved. Paramedics left the scene by 7.40am.

By 7.45am, about 10 kilometres of traffic stretched from the scene to Currumbin Waters. The same length of delays remained at 9am.

Police encouraged motorists to avoid the area and drivers were directed to use the Old Coach Road exit just before the crash scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit was examining the scene and the motorway was expected to remain closed for some time.
