Hardus Viljoen ends Kolpak deal with Derbyshire

2019-01-24 15:09

Cape Town - Former Proteas fast bowler Hardus Viljoen has left his Kolpak deal with English county club Derbyshire by mutual consent.

According to Derbyshire's website, Viljoen requested to have the final year of his contract terminated after signing a three-year Kolpak deal in 2016.

Viljoen, who made his Derbyshire debut in 2017, will leave with immediate effect.

The 29-year-old claimed 62 first-class wickets at an average of 28. In total, he played 53 matches across all forms for the club, taking 99 wickets.

Dave Houghton, head of Derbyshire cricket, said: "Hardus wishes to look at different options to further his career and the decision was made to release him from his contract with Derbyshire.

"I would like to wish him all the best for the future."

Viljoen played only one Test for the Proteas against England at the Wanderers in January 2016, taking the sole wicket of Alastair Cook.
