BENGALURU: Karnataka cable operators claimed the blackout of television screens they had called on Thursday was successful as 95 per cent of cable connections in the state remained switched off. The cable operators had launched a protest against the new tariff regime prescribed by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to be rolled out on February 1.
Their demands include revision of revenue sharing formula and reduction of GST from 18% to 5%.
“We intended to call a strike in southern states, but states in north India also participated in the strike. It was by and large successful across India,” said V S Patrick Raju, president of Karnataka Cable Operators Association.
The blackout was between 6am and 10pm.
He said the cable operators would go on an indefinite strike from February 1 if their demands are not met.
