Vadodara: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) activist Gopal Italiya was arrested by the Vallabh Vidyanagar police in connection with an offence registered against him under the Arms Act. Italiya has been addressing PAAS gatherings in the state and has been very critical of the government.

Sources said that an offence was registered by a youth BJP worker against Italiya regarding a video in which he was shown triggering an explosion in a pipe. The offence was registered on Tuesday and Italiya was picked up from Surat on Wednesday night. He was formally arrested on Thursday.

The arrest has, however, been condemned by his supporters. It is being argued that explosions in pipes were widely used to scare away animals and birds from farms to protect crops.

Italiya is presently conducting ‘Kayda Kathas’ to create awareness regarding various laws that people can use to press for their rights. He was also informing people on drafting applications and moving them to various government departments.

Earlier, Italiya had faced trouble when he had thrown a shoe on state home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja. Italiya used to post videos on social media condemning the government on various issues.
