Indore: Nearly 15 months after the crime, a special court on Tuesday sentenced a man to jail till his last breath for raping a nine-year-old girl. The girl used to him as uncle. Judge Varsha Sharma handed down the sentence and slapped a fine of Rs 50000 on the convict.
The convict would have to undergo additional term if he failed to pay the compensatory amount to the victim’s family. District prosecution officer Mohammed Akram Shaikh said 45-year-old Amratlal Verma, resident of Goma-ki-Phel, had raped a girl from the same locality on November 8, 2017.
The victim was playing around when Verma took her to his house and raped her. The girl narrated the entire episode before her parents who filed a complaint with Tukoganj police. Her parents told the police that the girl used to refer to the accused as uncle yet he committed such a crime with her!
When the incident came to light, the state government described it as a heinous crime and directed police to ensure that the investigation is completed and subsequently accused is awarded sentence as early as possible. “The prosecution produced nine witness in the case,” assistant public prosecutor Aarti Bhadoria said.
