Openly Gay, Millennial Mayor Joins 2020 Presidential Race

South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg has officially announced his 2020 presidential run.????(vo 2) (start with :06 through on-cam then footage w/ husband :29-:34)????The two-term mayor recently turned 37-years old making him the youngest candidate in the Democratic field and if chosen to represent the party, he would be the first openly gay nominee of a major political party in the U.S.????According to the Huff Post, Buttigieg became one of the nation’s youngest elected mayors when he first entered office at in 2011 at age 29.

????Three years later he served in Afghanistan as a lieutenant in the Navy Reserve.????The Site notes, prior to his second stint as mayor of South Bend, the Rhodes Scholar and Harvard graduate came out as gay in a 2015 local newspaper column and 3 years later married his husband Chasten Glezman.????Buttigieg is expected to travel to Iowa to meet with potential voters ahead of next year’s Democratic caucuses in the Hawkeye State.
