DNA Test Leads to Arrest in Case of Comatose Woman Who Gave Birth at Care Facility

A nurse was arrested after DNA testing linked him to the baby of an incapacitated patient.????Phoenix Police have arrested 36-year old Nathan Sutherland, an employee of Hacienda HealthCare, on one charge of sexual assault and another for vulnerable adult abuse.????The 29-year old victim gave birth to a baby boy on December 29th at the long-term care center where she has been a patient.????Police then tested the entire male staff at the facility.????Sutherland, one of the victim’s caretakers, was charged after authorities say his DNA matched the newborn boy.????Hacienda HealthCare employees say they were unaware that patient was pregnant.????The family describes the victim as being intellectually disabled since the age of 3 due to complications from seizures.
