Ayyaz Alif Shaikh (28) was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is stated as “out of danger”, officials from the Bund Garden police said and identified the two victims as Tabassum (22) and Alina (1).

Police said, Ayyaz, a delivery boy with a leading food services app, and Tabassum, a housewife, were living separately for more than a year and had filed a divorce petition. The petition is pending in a city court.

Ayyaz was residing at Kondhwa while Tabassum and her daughter were living with her father. “Ayyaz suspected my daughter of committing infidelity and also had issues with the payment of interim maintenance amount,” Tabassum’s father Nasir Shaikh told TOI.

Police said Nasir Shaikh, who is a fruit vendor, and his family members stay in a two-storeyed house. Nasir and his family members stay on the ground floor, while Tabbasum and Alina lived in a room on the first floor.

“My son-in-law came to our residence at around 4am. I usually lock the first-floor room from outside at night. Ayyaz used the staircase of my neighbour’s house to enter the first-floor terrace and opened the iron mesh of the window of my daughter’s room with the help of some tool. He then entered the room and stabbed my daughter and granddaughter,” Nasir said.

Senior police inspector M M Mujawar, of Bund Garden police, told TOI, “Ayyaz stabbed his wife in the stomach and other parts and also killed his daughter with the same weapon. Later, he stabbed himself. He then called his brother from a cellphone at 4.11 am. Ayyaz’s brother alerted the police and went to Tabassum’s house.”

The policemen rushed the three injured persons to the Sassoon General Hospital where Tabassum and Alina were pronounced “brought dead.”

Mujawar said, “A Pune court, responding to the divorce petition, had allowed some maintenance to Tabassum. However, Ayyaz was not happy with the amount. He used to visit the Tadiwala Road house often and abuse Tabassum.”
