AHMEDABAD: With state police still handling the aftereffects of PSI Satyendrasingh Rathod’s suicide, who had alleged harassment by DSP N V Patel, city police was riled by a message from a police inspector saying he will commit suicide due to harassment by his DCP. The message came at 12.19am on Wednesday.
At midnight, inspector B D Gamar of Shaher Kotda police station sent a message to ‘Ahmedabad City Officers’ WhatsApp group writing, “Sir, I will end my life due to harassment of this officer. B D Gamar, police inspector Shaher Kotda.” Gamar then called up police control room and said he will commit suicide as he was constantly harassed by DCP Zone-3, R F Sangada.
Sources in Shaher Kotda police said Gamar’s leave to attend his son’s marriage had not been sanctioned and he had been under stress. After that, he was rebuked by Sangada for not updating details of the police station on website.
Joint commissioner of police, Sector-1, Amitkumar Vishwakarma told TOI, “His superior may have told him (Gamar) something due to which he became impulsive and posted the message in an internal group of police officials and called up police control room as well. We have counselled both the officials in front of each other and thus sorted out the issue.”
When asked about the issue, Vishwakarma said that Sangada had scolded Gamar over some report but such things are not unexpected in the department.
“At present, I do not see any need for a departmental inquiry, but if any situation arises in future, then an inquiry will be initiated,” he said. Gamar confirmed that he had sent the suicide threats but did not divulge any details saying he was under stress. Sangada was not available for his comment despite several attempts to reach him and did not even answer text messages sent to him.
