Man booked for blackmailing minor with her photos

DAVANAGERE: Harihar Rural police have booked a case under Pocso Act against a 27-year-old married man for allegedly threatening a II PU girl to marry him.
The accused, Prashanth M, 27, an agriculturist and a resident of Bannikodu village in Harihar taluk, is said to have befriended her. The girl from the same village is a student of AVK Women’s College here.
A year ago, he allegedly took photographs with her at Kuruvatti fair and Indira Priyadarshini Park near Anagodu, and kept meeting her at the college too. Later, he threatened to upload those photos on social media and bring the matter to the notice of her parents claiming that he had married her. By blackmailing, he took money and her gold chain from her.
Unable to bear the harassment, the girl lodged a compliant with Harihar Rural police on Monday. After booking Prashant under Pocso Act, the police have launched a manhunt for him.
Debt-ridden ryot ends life
A 65-year-old farmer committed suicide by hanging at his house in Kittadalu village of Hosadurga taluk of Chitradurga district on Monday evening. Crop failure is said to be the reason for him to take the extreme step.
The deceased, Nagaraja N, had reportedly borrowed Rs 2 lakh from Pragathi Krishi Grameena Bank and Rs 2 lakh from private moneylenders for agriculture work. However following poor rain over the last three years, the borewell in his field dried up, because of which the standing crops withered, and so did coconut, according to a complaint.
Unable to clear mounting debts, he sunk into depression, the complaint added. Sri Rampura police have booked a case.
