Kenya Tourism Board aims to increase tourists from India and Spain

The State agency said that it would lead more than 10 Kenyan local travel agents on a marketing mission in these two countries.

 

“Ten Kenyan travel trade partners will pitch a tent from January 23-25 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India, to woo travellers to Kenya at the Outbound Travel Mart,” said CEO Betty Radier.

 

Kenya’s 2018 tourist arrivals grew by 37.33 percent from the previous year to cross the two million mark for the first time, registering significant growth in earnings to Sh157 billion. The earnings are a 31.2 percent rise from the Sh119 billion earned in 2017.

 

As per latest statistics, there were 2,025,206 tourists arrivals compared to 1,474,671 in the previous year.

 

The US remained Kenya’s top market, growing by 11.12 per cent with 225,157 arrivals.

 

Tanzania came in second with a 10.48 percent share of the arrivals at 212,216 tourists.

 

Uganda was third at 10.08 percent or 204,082 arrivals. Other top markets were India, China, Germany, Italy and South Africa. India is ranked among Kenya’s top five tourists source markets from Asia.
