Nagpur: Cancer detection will no longer be a time consuming affair any more. With the launch of cancer detection kit, anyone would be able to find out whether one needs to consult a specialist doctor or not.
With the help of this kit, three stages of cancer can be detected using urine sample within five minutes, akin to pregnancy kit.

Guardian minister Chandrashekar Bawankule and mayor Nanda Jichkar launched the instrument titled ‘Can Kit’ at a programme held at Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Indira Gandhi Rugnalaya on Wednesday. MLC Parinay Fuke, ruling party leader Sandip Joshi, chairman of Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and others were present on the occasion.

Bawankule said plan is to link ‘Can Kit’ with the central government’s Ayushman Bharat scheme for making the state free from cancer. “Hundreds of people die of cancer every year. Early detection will prevent many from death. Many lives can be saved by using this kit,” he said.

Caring India has launched the kit. Managing director of Caring India Gurmeet Singh Vij told TOI state’s labour board is likely to link the kit with its health check-up camps. “It is India’s first non-invasive urine-based early stage cancer detection kit for all types of cancers. Morsef Lifesciences LLP has set up a unit in Thane to manufacture the kit. Caring India is general partner for distribution,” he said.

Vij added plan is to first take this kit to rural areas and labour sector. “People from rural areas do not have the facility of regular health check ups and diagnosis, thus becoming prone to cancer. Within three to four months, we will launch it for sale in all pharmacies,” he said.

Vij also said we are also in touch with Gujarat and Manipur governments to introduce the kit there. “We have conducted test of 150 people free of cost using the kit at the programme today. Previously, we have conducted camps at Siddhivinayak temple, Bhakti Vidhanta and Brahma Kumaris in Mumbai,” he added. He also said the kit has been launched in the city as Vidarbha is known as a leading centre for oral cancer. “Also, I am a resident of the city,” he said.

Vij said the ‘Can Kit’ has been approved in Europe and has received CEP certificate. “National Health Mission, Drug Controller of India and state’s Foods and Drug Administration have tested and approved the kit,” he said.

“Cancer specialists have termed the kit as a revolution in cancer detection. Cancer is not curable if detected in third and fourth stage. However, it can be controlled in the first and second stage. Unfortunately, in most of the cases cancer detection happens only in later stages. This kit will help in diagnosing cancer in early stage,” he said.

Only 5ml urine sample is required for testing in this kit. In case of cancer positive person, colour changes to dark yellow for stage-I, pink for stage-II and brick red for stage-III.

At the same time, the guests performed bhoomipuja for renovation of Indira Gandhi Rugnalaya. Following efforts of corporator Parineeta Fuke, the NMC has sanctioned Rs1 crore for the works. Bawankule assured to approve Rs2 crore for the hospital.

Fuke said operation theatre, labour room and majority of premises of the hospital will be renovated.
