Ex-RSL boss Don Rowe charged over allegedly misappropriated funds
Former NSW RSL boss Don Rowe has been charged with misappropriating the organisation's funds, almost a year after an inquiry into the league's rorting scandal recommended he face criminal charges.
Mr Rowe, 70, met detectives at Armidale police station on Wednesday. He was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception relating to his alleged misuse of corporate credit cards during his time at the helm of the organisation.
It is understood that the amount of money he is alleged to have misappropriated is about $10,000.
An inquiry into RSL expenditure last year recommended the Armidale man should face criminal charges, and 13 other directors of the RSL should be referred to the charity watchdog for their roles in covering up the expenses scandal.
The inquiry, headed by former Supreme Court justice Patricia Bergin, also called for reforms of the regulations around how charities such as the RSL collect and spend money from members of the public.
Mr Rowe retired from the top job at the league in 2014.
He will appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, March 7.
