Chandigarh: Man goes to buy liquor, found murdered in Sector 25

CHANDIGARH: A 30-yearold man was found murdered near public toilets in Sector 25 on Tuesday morning.

Police said Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Sector 25, used to work as a garbage collector and was living with his parents. He had separated from his wife and is survived by a son.

Sources said Kumar was attacked with sharpedged weapons and sticks. He had gone to buy liquor from Sector 38 and had arguments with illicit liquor vendors. They started thrashing him and dragged him on the road till Sector 25, fleeing after dumping him. Injury marks were found all over his body. Police said he was also stabbed in his leg and head. His hands were tied with a rope.


Subhash, an uncle of the victim, said Sanjeev was an alcoholic and left the house around 8.30 pm on Monday night and never returned. Police said Vasudev, a resident of Sector 25, spotted the body outside his shanty near the toilets at 6.45 am and informed the police. A police party reached the spot and took Sanjeev to Government Multispecialty Hospital, Sector 16, where doctors declared him brought dead. Sector 11 police registered a murder case against unknown persons and started probe in the matter. Sources said the police have detained four suspects in the case, but no arrests have been made so far.
