PATNA: Two criminals were arrested on Monday for their alleged involvement in Rs7.5 lakh loot from the doorstep service centre of Bandhan Bank at Jaiprakash Nagar under the Rajeev Nagar police station area in the city on January 17.
Six bike-borne armed criminals, after looting the cash at around 3.10pm, had also taken away the CCTV camera hard drive.
City SP (central) D Amarkesh told mediapersons on Tuesday that the arrested criminals were identified as Pankaj Chaudhary and Rakesh Kumar, both in their early 30s. They were nabbed from Amrudi Bagicha at Rajeev Nagar.
“One country-made pistol and two live cartridges were seized from Pankaj’s possession while Rs5,000 of the looted money was recovered from Rakesh’s possession,” he said.
“Pankaj is a notorious criminal. He had been to jail many times. He was also involved in theft of five proximity fuses used in artillery shells by Indian Army. The fuses were stolen from the parcel van of Himgiri Express when it was crossing through Patna in the first week of January last year,” he said, adding Pankaj had come out of jail in September last year.
Amarkesh said Rakesh had also been to jail in 1999 in a bike loot case under the Alamganj police station area. He said Rakesh’s wife was customer at the centre and he also used to visit there.
“He had gathered the details of money deposits and time. The gang planned the loot in December last year,” he said.
Amarkesh said Rakesh conducted recce for at least three consecutive day and shared information with his associates. He said the other criminals involved in the loot were also identified and raids were on to nab them.
