BENGALURU: Karnataka home minister M B Patil on Wednesday said he has given a free hand to police to act against Kampli Congress MLA J N Ganesh, who is at large after assaulting his colleague at a resort recently.
"This is a heinous act and will not be tolerated by the party and the government. We will do our best and shortly arrest Ganesh," Patil told reporters.

He said the home ministry would not interfere in the investigation as the police has the right to act in the case as they have strong evidence.

"The police has already filed a FIR in the case and the party has rightly suspended him. Whenever such cases happen these people abscond but police will arrest him soon. Nobody is bigger than law." he added.

More than 24 hours after an alleged brawl that took place inside a resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru between two Congress MLAs on January 18, the police booked a case against Ganesh based on the statement of the victim Anand Singh.

According to the FIR, during the fight which took place at the resort where 70 Congress legislators were put up, Ganesh allegedly beat up Anand Singh with flower pots and sticks.
