Council BANS residents from running across a bridge - despite insisting the span is 'structurally sound'
- Sydney council has put up a sign banning people from running across a bridge
- Sutherland Shire Council insists the bridge that spans Woronora River is safe
- The sign advises that running across the bridge in groups will cause vibration
- Residents have been left wondering if the bridge is in danger of collapsing
A Sydney council has banned running on bridge because it causes vibration - but insists it is safe.
A picture of a sign erected by Sutherland Shire Council, south of the Sydney CBD, was posted online last week advising locals and visitors to walk across the Prince Edward Park footbridge in Woronora, as running in groups would cause 'excessive vibration.'
The sign also advises that further signs prohibiting the activity would be installed in the future, however, there is no mention if the issue would be fixed or even investigated.

'This bridge currently has no structural issues, however, running in groups will cause excessive vibration which may damage the structure. Council will be placing signs prohibiting this activity in the near future,' the sign reads.
Comments on social media were sceptical about the effectiveness of the signs.
'And people are going to pay attention to that?' wrote one person.
'Seems like for a bridge with no structural issues it seems a bit suspect,' another person wrote.
'Always was a bouncy bridge,' commented a third.
A Council spokesperson told The St George Shire Standard a structural engineer had already inspected the bridge and confirmed it is 'structurally sound.'
'However, as an added precaution for the structure we will be installing advisory signage asking the community to not run in large groups across the bridge and for safety reasons to not jump from the bridge,' the spokesperson said.
