Haryana: Income tax department conducts raid on two showrooms in Ambala cloth market

AMBALA: The income tax (IT) department on Wednesday conducted a surprise raid at two showrooms near Maharaja Agrasen Chowk in Ambala, with the officials informing that it is a routine survey and that "we have come here to inspect some income-related documents".
The raid was conducted on two well-known showrooms of the city, including Kapil Sarees and Chhabra Sons Jewellers. As soon as the team visited the market area, the other shopkeepers in the market were also seen alerted immediately.
The raiding team was guarded by the cops, on their entry, the showrooms were sealed, the teams did not allow any workers of the shops to go out and the customers were asked to leave. The cops stood as guards of the showroom while the raiding team went inside.
Santosh Yadav, Income Tax Officer, said, “It is our routine survey process under section 133 A (power of survey) of the Income Tax Act at the Kapil Sarees and the Chhabra Sons Jewellers. We would continue this routine process for some time.”
As per sources, the officials of the IT department have seized some documents from both the showrooms.
The officials refused to disclose any details about the seizure and for how long the survey would continue. They said we would give all the information once we complete our procedures.
