As part of the national pulse polio programme, the district administration in association with the Department of Health and Family Welfare and others will conduct a pulse polio drive in the district on February 3.

Chairing the district-level task force committee meeting here recently, Deputy Commissioner M. Deepa said a target of vaccinating 2.47 lakh children has been set. Children, who are below five years of age, would be vaccinated. Preparations are being made to achieve the target, she said.

Ms. Deepa said the district had achieved cent percent target in the pulse polio programme held on February 14 last year, and preparations are being made to repeat the same achievement this time also. She instructed the officials concerned to make all necessary arrangement for the success of the drive in the district. About the arrangements, she said 892 vaccination centres, 93 transport teams, and 56 mobile units would be put into action during this year’s drive. A total of 3,620 personnel would be on duty, while 192 officials would supervise the work related to the drive.

As part of this campaign, 4.22 lakh households in the district would be visited by the personnel to administer pulse polio drops from February 4 to 6. A total of 160 vehicles would be used for this drive, while staff of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Woman and Child Welfare Department, Department of Public Instruction, Transport, and Police Departments should actively work for the success of the campaign. No child below five years of age should be left out of this drive. Special focus should be given to approach parents in rural areas and convince them to vaccinate their children.
