The tourist hotspot of Munnar will be a tad bit less congested now with the opening of a parking ground that can accommodate 250 vehicles.
The ground will also have a petrol pump, eateries and other amenities.
Parking vehicles on the Munnar-Mattupetty stretch had been causing hours of traffic congestion.
An official of Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Ltd said here on Wednesday that the visitors would park the vehicles by the roadside to visit the Forest Flower Garden.
Traffic congestion
Recently, in view of the Neelakurinji season, authorities had arranged temporary parking facilities at Old Munnar.
With tourist flow increasing following the low temperature, traffic congestion became a major problem. But now, tourists could park vehicles free of cost for four hours.
The tourist vehicles moving to Kundala, Top Station, and Vattavada could also avail themselves of the services of the parking ground, sources said.
The vehicles moving on the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway, passing close to Munnar town, could also have a hassle-free short visit to the tourism spots in Munnar. P.T. Siganporia, chairman, KDHP, opened the parking ground on Tuesday at a function attended by Devikulam Subcollector Renu Raj and Mathew Abraham, managing director, KDHP, sources added.
