PUNE: For the first time, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing at the Waghire College, in Saswad, will get its share of representation in the Republic Day parade this year on the Rajpath in New Delhi.
Five cadets — three men and two women — have been selected for the prestigious parade on January 26.
“A total of 148 men and 148 women were shortlisted for the Republic Day parade out of 3,000 cadets from across the country. From Maharashtra alone, as many as 20 cadets were selected, including the five cadets from the Waghire College,” said Nitin Ghorpade, the principal of the college.
The cadets making it to the final list include Vaibhav Poman, Pratap Balwadkar, Trupti Wadkar and Tejaswi Jhurunge. Another cadet, Siddharth Inamke, has been selected to participate in the President’s rally.
“The rehearsals for the parade are currently underway in New Delhi. We will be felicitating the parents of the selected students during the Republic Day celebrations at our college here,” Ghorpade said.
He added that Captain Deepak Jabhale, the Maharashtra contingent chief, was an alumnus of the Waghire College.
